TUESDAY TOPICS NOVEMBER: Richard Vinroot, Political Figure and Attorney from Charlotte

Richard Vinroot is Charlotte native with 40+ years practicing law as a commercial litigator with the law firm Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson.  He served in public office from 1983- 1991 on the Charlotte City Council.  He then served as our Mayor from 1991 to 1995.   In 2000, he was the Republican Party nominee for governor of North Carolina. Over his career, he has served on numerous board of directors, including Martin-Marietta Materials, Inc. He also has been a champion of empowering parents via school choice and has served on the board of trustees for Sugar Creek Charter School. Mr. Vinroot is an Eagle Scout.  He graduated East Mecklenburg High school.  He was awarded the Morehead scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill.  He was also a member of the UNC Varsity Basketball team  and played on Dean Smith's first team at UNC.  He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam during 1968. Richard and wife Judy have three children and four grandchildren.
